Make a privacy requestAbout this policy
This policy explains how TaxSale Canada handles personal information when you browse taxsale.ca, create an account, request alerts, use membership features, order property research or contact us. Questions and privacy requests can be sent to contact@taxsale.ca with “Privacy request” in the subject.
Our site includes information from public tax sale notices and property records. Being listed in a source does not make someone a TaxSale Canada customer. If a listing contains incorrect personal information or raises a privacy concern, contact us with the listing link and the specific information involved.
Information we collect
- Account information
- Your name, email address, password hash, account identifiers, verification and password-reset records, and the date and version of terms accepted. Passwords are stored as hashes rather than readable passwords.
- Saved properties and preferences
- Saved listing identifiers, province interests, email settings and the filters you use to keep your browsing view consistent.
- Province alerts
- Your email address, chosen province, consent and confirmation records, subscription status, unsubscribe records and email delivery information. An account is not required to request these alerts.
- Membership and orders
- Payment-provider customer and subscription references, payment and renewal status, research order references, selected property, amounts, taxes, fulfilment status and documents associated with your order.
- Support correspondence
- Your sender and reply details, subject, message content, timestamps and attachment information when you email us. Original attachments may remain with our email provider.
- Technical information
- Connection and request information needed to deliver and secure the site, including IP addresses used to limit abusive sign-in or account requests. Hosting services may also record access and error information.
Checkout collects payment and billing details through the payment provider. TaxSale Canada does not store your full payment-card number or card security code. Please do not send payment details, passwords or land-registry credentials by email.
How we use information
- Create and secure your account, verify your email and help you recover access.
- Keep saved properties and preferences available when you sign in.
- Provide requested alerts, account messages and service information.
- Process membership access, reconcile payments and fulfil research orders.
- Answer support requests, investigate errors and prevent misuse.
- Keep records needed for accounting, disputes and applicable legal obligations.
Information necessary to operate an account or fulfil a purchase is separate from optional email preferences. Choosing not to receive listing emails does not stop essential messages such as email verification, password recovery or communications about your order.
Service providers and external services
Providers process information needed for hosting, email delivery, billing and features you use. The current service uses Amazon Web Services for hosting and outgoing email, Porkbun for the support mailbox, Stripe for checkout and billing, and Google for available Maps and Street View features and optional Google Analytics. Existing PayPal subscription records may also be handled where relevant to an account.
For example, billing requires account and purchase details, while email delivery requires the recipient address and message content. Opening an interactive map, Street View or an external link can send your IP address, browser information and the requested page or map to that provider.
These providers may process information outside your province or outside Canada, where local laws and lawful government access requirements may differ. This policy does not promise that all information remains in Canada.
We may also disclose information where required by law or where legally permitted to investigate fraud, protect the service or address a dispute. External websites control their own information practices. You can review Stripe’s privacy policy and Google’s privacy policy before using those services.
Browser storage, maps and cookies
We use your browser’s local storage to remember your signed-in session and session storage to remember property search filters. Signing out removes the saved sign-in token from that browser. Browser settings let you clear stored site data; doing so may sign you out or reset your filters.
If you choose “Allow analytics”, we use Google Analytics (measurement ID G-WJZ1L8THS0) to understand page visits, referring sites, and general device and browser usage so we can improve the website. Google may use analytics cookies to recognize visits. We do not enable Google Signals or advertising personalization. Analytics is optional and stays off until you allow it; use “Analytics preferences” in the footer to decline or change your choice. Declining analytics does not prevent browsing, sign-in or purchases. We exclude account, saved-property, administration, verification and password-reset pages from analytics, and do not send account details, search text or payment identifiers as analytics parameters. Embedded maps and payment services may use their own cookies or similar technologies under their policies.
Your email choices
Province alerts require your request and email confirmation before alert delivery begins. Use the unsubscribe link in a province alert and confirm the unsubscribe action on the page it opens. Province subscriptions are managed separately, so unsubscribing from one province does not remove a request for another.
For account-based listing emails, use the email preferences on the Alerts page to change or pause updates where available. The page shows delivery availability. Contact us if you cannot access an unsubscribe link or your account.
Unsubscribing from email does not close your account or cancel a paid membership. It also does not remove records needed to honour your unsubscribe choice.
Retention and security
Account, transaction, order, consent and correspondence records are kept for the operational purposes described above and applicable recordkeeping needs. How long a record is needed depends on its purpose, account or order status, legal obligations and any unresolved dispute. Account closure does not immediately erase every related record or backup.
You may ask about records associated with you or request deletion using the process below. Some records may need to be retained, including transaction records or a limited record of an unsubscribe request. We do not promise a single deletion period for every category of information.
Controls include hashed passwords, access checks for account and order records, and restrictions on administrative access. No online system can eliminate every security risk. Use a unique password, protect your email account, sign out on shared devices and tell us if you believe your account has been compromised.
Access, corrections and deletion requests
You can edit your name and password in Account, remove saved properties and change available email preferences. For access to your personal information, a correction, account closure, deletion or withdrawal of consent, email contact@taxsale.ca.
Use the email address associated with your account or alert request, describe what you need, and include a relevant order reference if applicable. We may need to verify your identity before disclosing or changing personal information. Do not attach identity documents unless a secure, appropriate verification method has been arranged.
Requests are handled individually, subject to the privacy law that applies and any lawful exceptions. Removing information needed for an account or order can prevent us from continuing that service. Requesting account closure is separate from cancelling a subscription; use the billing portal to confirm cancellation and contact us if you need help.
If a concern is not resolved, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the privacy regulator for your province, as appropriate. Your applicable rights are not limited by this policy.
Policy updates and contact
The date at the top identifies this version. We will post changes here. A policy update alone does not replace any additional notice or consent required by law for a new use of personal information.
Contact contact@taxsale.ca for privacy questions, a concern about published property information or help using your choices. For membership and purchase information, see the Terms of use and Help & FAQs.
